Our Summer Fellows included 20 students from throughout DC. It was our largest and most diverse cohort yet with students from 10 schools residing in 7 out of 8 wards. From addressing school and community safety to expanding access to employment opportunities for returning citizens, each of our students worked on significant initiatives this summer.

They conducted student focus groups, worked in key local and national political leaders' offices, promoted awareness, researched and created policy suggestions, and spoke up on the subjects that mattered most to them. We even added two new experiences to our program which included a financial literacy workshop and a court simulation with a DC Magistrate Judge. The fellowship allowed students to bring their opinions and ideas straight into legislators' offices while learning about how local government operates.

Our summer experience culminated with the 2022 Leadership Café. We were honored to have two student keynotes, Jordyn Middleton and Kayla Higgins – both Mikva alumni who came back to Mikva DC to help lead our programming and our communications work this summer. In addition to our students, our guests included elected officials, community leaders, entrepreneurs, and other esteemed professionals.

During this professional speed networking event, summer fellows and adult guests gathered to reflect on their educational and professional experiences and share their visions for the future.

Watch this short clip of Jordyn Middleton, Mikva alumni & Communications intern speaking about her journey with Mikva DC from high school to college.

If you would like to contribute to ensuring these powerful experiences continue to take place, we invite you to make a gift and become a Mikva donor.

Thank you for supporting youth voice and leadership in DC!
