Despite being too young to vote, over 1,240 Mikva young people participated in the 2020 election through voting squads, national youth election forums, youth councils, and the Great Electoral Race. Over 2,500 educators engaged in Mikva’s professional development workshops to get equipped to create democratic classrooms and support their students in taking informed action on the issues they care about. Youth Census Ambassadors in Washington, DC mobilized residents in Wards with lower response rates to complete the 2020 Census. In total, the Ambassadors held 15,568 conversations with community members about the importance of the Census. 110 Chicago youth across five different Citywide Youth Councils made policy recommendations in 18 Decision Maker meetings, resulting in 19 policy wins in the areas of health, juvenile justice, education, youth-police relations, and public housing. They also hosted 3 youth-led events on these topics. | |
