This week, Mikva Challenge is celebrating our Virtual Action Civics Showcase! The showcase includes more than 60 projects, presented virtually.

Thanks to our partnership with Chicago Public Schools and schools across the Chicago area, students in Mikva Challenge’s school programs and councils are participating along with peers in Mikva’s DC and national sites. Together, young people are sharing their ideas and solutions on critical issues affecting their lives.

As a member of the Mikva Challenge community, we’d love for you to join us in providing encouragement to our youth as well as constructive feedback and suggestions for students' projects. This process will be completely asynchronous so you can log on anytime from May 18-22 to provide your comments.

Many of these projects were designed during the pandemic crisis as students adjusted to remote learning! As you will see, some of these projects highlight the work students were doing for their Action Civics activities in the classroom before we transitioned to remote learning, while others focus on what is important to student and youth voice perspectives during this current uncertain time. The Virtual Action Civics Showcase gives our youth the opportunity to be heard and seen, not only by each other, but also by you!

Get Involved!

To engage, simply go to https://mikvachallenge.edublogs.org/ any time between now and Friday, May 22. You'll be able to easily search by issue area as well as by city/region. If you would like to be able to leave comments on students' activities, simply go through the quick process of creating a username when prompted. Within each project, you'll also have the option to nominate the student's work for a badge that celebrates either their community analysis, research, or their action! If you have questions, please reach out to Karla at karla@mikvachallenge.org.

The young people participating in Mikva Challenge programs are extraordinary. Our participants show an intense commitment to and sense of ownership over their schools and communities; their solutions are innovative and always serious.

With your help, Mikva Challenge will remain a constant source of support for Chicagoland’s youth.

We are asking those of you who have yet to support the Youth Voices Campaign and Virtual Spring Benefit to please do so now. Your contribution means so much during this time.

Join our mission by becoming an advocate to support youth voices.

Thanks to a generous anonymous donor, all gifts from new donors will be matched-dollar-for-dollar. Additionally, any increased gifts will also be matched. Your generosity at this critical moment will make a difference!

You can hear more about their impactful work during our virtual spring benefit! Join us on Thursday, May 28 at 5:30 p.m. to participate in our virtual youth - focused celebration.

We’re grateful for our Virtual Spring Benefit Host Committee.

With appreciation,

Verneé Green
